...NC/TN/VA/northern GA/SC We live in NC and our daughter has recently broached the subject of going to a boarding school. I know firsthand some of what a boarding school can offer and I see my child as being a kid who could really thrive in a good boarding school but I also know some of the potential down sides. There is a site where I can compare things like tuition, availability of financial aid (essential), sports offerings, SAT scores etc.- but I would really like to know more about the social culture, teaching philosophy and other such intangibles which I can't get from this website and might not be clear even by asking the schools. Is there anyone who knows first hand about the schools in the upper SE - Rabun Gap, Asheville School, Salem Academy, Chatham Hall, the Webb School, etc? I'd love to know if you think of any of them as really GOOD schools or just posh holding tanks for wealthy kids. Would my un-wealthy, bright, proudly quirky, motivated learner find a place there?
